TAIF AWARDED FOR CATALYTIC CRACKING

Tatarstan-based OJSC TAIF-NK was on 10 March 2009 named a laureate of Russia’s 2008’s governmental prize in the area of science and engineering. The prize was granted as a reward for the development of catalytic cracking process of sulfur feedstock hydrofining, on the basis of which the bulk production of high-octane motor gasoline has been launched.

The company’s effort included R&D and project developments resulting in the accomplished design of a sulfur feedstock combined catalytic cracking unit with further desulfurization of gasoline distillate. A series of original fundamental research in the area of catalytic cracking and crude oil desulfurization has been carried out which novelty is now proved by a series authorship certificates and patents. The reliability of the results achieved has been confirmed by combined catalytic cracking unit commercial operation practice, while the high level of the project design has been proven by the failure-free operation of technological equipment and stable commercial output.

While previously TAIF’s Nizhnekamsk refinery mainly produced diesel fuels and low-octane gasoline, starting 2007 the enterprise has been producing as much as 800,000 t/year of high-octane gasoline, being boosted by market demand. The active role in the development and realization of the project of catalytic cracking unit was played by OJSC VNIIPIneft (Moscow), Russia’s leading company dealing in oil refining technologies, headed by its director general Vladimir Kapustin.

As a reward for the achievemed and according to the government’s decree ¹221 dated 10 March 2009, Russia’s 2008’s governmental prize and a rank of “Laureate of the Russian Federation government prize in the area of science and engineering” was awarded to TAIF’s CEO Albert K. Shigabutdinov; Vladimir V. Presnyakov, TAIF’s deputy director general; Aleksandr A. Babynin, TAIF-NK director general; and Amil K. Kalimullin, TAIF-NK’s gasoline factory director.

OJSC TAIF has been on the market since 1995. Presently, TAIF group includes 40 daughter companies representing a diversified structure comprising telecommunication, oil refining and construction businesses as well as equity, banking, customs and insurance services.
